Box Score 2 FRANKLIN, Ind.—Transylvania's softball team dropped a pair of Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference games on Tuesday to the Franklin College Grizzlies. The Pioneers lost by scores of 10-2 and 9-1 in the doubleheader.
In game one, Transy took a one-run lead in the top of the first when third baseman Elizabeth Young scored on a wild pitch. Young reached on a two-out single and advanced on third on a double from shortstop Shelby Bailey.
Franklin retook the lead in the bottom of the inning, scoring three runs on four hits. Transy picked up a run in the second to bring the score to 3-2 but it would be the final time the Pioneers scored in the game. Franklin would add three runs in the second and four in the bottom of the fourth to win by a score of 10-2.
In the day's second game, the Pioneers fell behind early and were never able to gain the lead, scoring just a single run in the fifth inning. Pinch hitter Megan Aebersold picked up the lone RBI in the game for Transy, driving in left fielder Krista DeBurger.
Despite the loss, the Pioneers (12-16, 5-5 HCAC) stay in the hunt for a conference tournament berth and return to action tomorrow with a conference doubleheader against Hanover College.
