Box Score 2 LEXINGTON, Ky.—Two losses to conference front-runner Anderson University ended the 2015 softball season for the Transylvania University softball team Monday at John R. Hall Field.
Transy fell in game one, 12-2, as the Pioneers scattered nine hits. A leadoff solo homer from Lauren Willett put the Pioneers on the board in the home half of the third. With two away, Shelby Bailey singled putting one on for the Pioneers, before Katie Hulsman knocked a single down the right field line to move Bailey third. Transy, however, could not convert leaving two aboard.
Bailey stepped to the plate in the bottom of the fifth and knocked a solo shot—her fifth of the season—closing the Anderson lead to four, 6-2. Anderson was able to hold off the Transy comeback attempt, plating six more runs in the top of the sixth to take game one.
In game two, Anderson plated two runs in the top of the first to jump out to an early lead, before adding runs the following three innings to take a 9-0 lead. The Pioneers were held scoreless, unable to overcome the deficit.
The Pioneers conclude the 2015 just shy of a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament bid.
