Transylvania women's soccer team falls short at Capital

Box Score

Columbus, Ohio – The Transylvania women's soccer team dropped a hard-fought, 2-1 decision to the Capital University Crusaders at Bernlohr Stadium on Wednesday night.

Just eight minutes into the game the Pioneers took a 1-0 lead thanks to a Crusaders' own goal.

Capital responded just minutes later when Carlee Murry struck a through ball to the near post, evening the score at 1-1.

Transylvania's attackers continued to apply pressure to the Crusaders' defense but were unable to find a go-ahead goal before the intermission.

In the 54th minute freshman forward Ashley Chindo looked primed to give Transylvania the lead, but her shot was denied by the Crusaders' goalkeeper.

Just seconds later a shot from Capital's Sydney Dion found the back of the net, giving the Crusaders a 2-1 lead.

Transylvania remained focused on scoring as the Pioneers recorded five shot attempts in the final 25 minutes of play. However, the Capital defense held strong, preserving the 2-1 victory.

Despite the deficit on the scoreboard, the Pioneers outshot the Crusaders 17-10 and held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks earned.

Up next for the Pioneers is a road matchup with the Covenant College Scots on Saturday, September 15. First touch between the Pioneers and the Scots is set for 4:30 p.m. at Scotland Yard.
