Seniors generate power on their night as Transylvania softball sweeps Hanover

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Lexington, Ky. – The Transylvania softball team celebrated Senior Night 2019 with a pair of two-run victories over the Hanover College Panthers at Hall Field on Monday night.

Transylvania took game one by the score of 2-0 before cruising to a 3-1 victory in game two. With the two victories secured, the Pioneers honored the team's six graduating seniors in a postgame ceremony.

Leading the way for Transylvania on Monday night were seniors Jessica Powell and Brittany Mumford. Powell went 4-for-6 at the plate with three RBI, while Mumford turned in a 3-for-6 performance with two doubles and a stolen base.

The Pioneers took control of the night in the bottom of the first when Powell drove in Alyssa Nunn with an RBI single up the middle. Later in the inning, Nunn scored on a Hanover wild pitch, pushing the Pioneers' lead to 2-0.

With the lead in hand, the Pioneers handed the ball to Kameron Bowling, who pitched a complete-game shutout in the victory. Bowling scattered four hits and tallied six strikeouts en route to her ninth win of the season.

Game two followed a similar script to that of game one as the Pioneers jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to a double by Powell that scored Shelby Gambrell and Brittany Mumford in the bottom of the first.

Transylvania added an insurance run in the third when Laurel Major singled through the left side, scoring Jordyn Powell.

The Panthers showed signs of life in the top of the seventh as they scored their first run of the night. However, Bowling entered the game in relief of starter Jessica Gunter and retired the final two Hanover batters to record her third save of the season.

The Pioneers will now face a quick turnaround as they travel to Franklin, Indiana tomorrow for a pair of games against the Franklin College Grizzlies. First pitch of game one is set for 3:30 at Behrens Field.
