Transylvania softball takes away game two from Anderson in Hall Field doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Lexington, Ky. – In its first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference home series of the season, the Transylvania softball team split a pair of games with the Anderson University Ravens at Hall Field on Saturday afternoon.

After dropping a 5-2 result in game one, the Pioneers came charging back to forge a split with a 6-2 victory in game two.

With the split, Transylvania's record moves to 12-8 overall and 2-2 in the HCAC. Anderson is now 2-2 in HCAC play and 8-6 overall.

Alyssa Nunn provided the Pioneers with solid offensive performance on Saturday. The freshman went 4-for-6 at the plate with a run, an RBI, and a stolen base in the two-game series.

Transylvania struck first in game one, scoring on an Anderson error in the first inning. The Pioneers doubled their lead in the second when Laurel Major smacked an RBI single into centerfield that scored Taylor Stamps.

However, the Ravens would go on to outscore Transylvania 5-0 over the next five innings to capture the 5-2 victory.

In game two, the Pioneers jumped out in front early when Janelle Hynes sent a two-run triple into centerfield. Hynes would later score on a Meg Liter sacrifice fly that pushed the Pioneers' lead to 3-0 after an inning of play.

Brittany Mumford extended the Pioneers' lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the third when she blasted her second home run of the season over the fence in left field.

The Ravens responded with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth to cut Transylvania's lead in half. However, Transylvania added two more runs of their own in the bottom half of the frame via an RBI triple from Nunn and an RBI double from Major. The pair of runs pushed the final score to 6-2 in favor of Transylvania.

Picking up the victory for Transylvania in the circle was Jessica Gunter, who scattered five hits and tallied two strikeouts while allowing just two runs in seven innings of work.

The Pioneers will return to action on Wednesday, April 10 as they travel to Crestview Hills, Kentucky for a pair of non-conference games against the Thomas More University Saints. First pitch between the Pioneers and Saints is set for 3:30 p.m. at Thomas More Field.
