Terre Haute, Ind. – The Transylvania women's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to the Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers in overtime at the Rose-Hulman Intramural Field on Saturday afternoon.
The loss drops Transylvania's record to 2-2 while the Fightin' Engineers improve to 4-0 on the year.
The Fightin' Engineers tested the Transylvania defense throughout the first half as the Pioneers endured five shots on goal without creating any quality chances of their own. However, no goals were to be had, and the teams went into the halftime break even at 0-0.
The second half saw little in terms of offense as the two teams struggled to find the back of the net, leading to a 0-0 score at the end of regulation.
Then, six minutes into overtime, Rose-Hulman's Lane Lawrence delivered the game-winning strike, dashing the Pioneers' hopes and ending the game at 1-0.
Transylvania goalkeeper
Morgan Patton was brilliant in the loss. The junior tallied seven saves against just one goal allowed in 96 minutes of play.
The Pioneers will look to end their two-game losing skid when they host the Mount St. Joseph University Lions on Wednesday, March 17. The match is set for a 7:00 p.m. start at Pat Deacon Stadium.
