The now 7-0 Pioneers captured a thrilling 7-6 win over the Fontbonne University Griffins before going on to defeat the Buena Vista University Beavers 2-0 in the final game of the weekend.
Carlee Jeter got the start in the circle for Transylvania in game one. The freshman tallied one strikeout and scattered seven hits and five runs across seven innings of work.
Trailing the Griffins 5-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, Transylvania mounted a furious rally that began with Becca Messing driving in two runs with a hard-hit double to centerfield. Lexi Childers later tied the game at 5-5 with an RBI single into shallow left field.
After Fontbonne plated a run in the top half of the eighth inning to reclaim the lead, Allyson O'Dell hit a sacrifice fly into left field that scored Cece Wittry to tie up the Griffins again. With the game tied, Messing capped off her day with a shot to the wall in right field, giving the Pioneers the 7-6 victory.
In game two, the Pioneers sent Kameron Bowling to the circle to face Buena Vista. The senior continued to build upon her impressive start to the season with four strikeouts and no runs allowed in seven innings of work.
The Pioneers took control of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning when Carson Murray smacked a double to deep left field. Taylor Stamps followed with a double to centerfield, driving in Murray to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead.
Transylvania added an insurance run via Kadi Weaver, who brought home Stamps with an RBI single to centerfield. The Transylvania defense held strong over the final three innings to protect Bowling's shutout and keep the Pioneers perfect on the season.
The Pioneers will be back in action on Saturday, March 13, when they travel to Emory, Virginia, for a pair of games against the Emory & Henry University Wasps and the Christopher Newport University Captains.
