Transylvania softball brings the heat at Bluffton in sizable Saturday sweep

Bluffton, Ohio – After a prolonged break from play, the Transylvania softball team returned to action with an impressive pair of victories over the Bluffton University Beavers at Bluffton Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Pioneers overcame Bluffton 7-2 in game one before overpowering the Beavers 9-0 in game two.

With the wins, Transylvania improves to 18-8 overall and 8-2 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference while the Beavers fall to 6-25, and 3-11 in league play.

Transylvania sent Kameron Bowling to the circle in game one. The senior continued to build upon her season of dominance by striking out 10 Beavers and not allowing a run in her five innings of work. Bowling earned her 10th win of the season after her game one dealings.

The Pioneers put up four runs in the top of the second thanks to an RBI double to centerfield by Alyssa Nunn and an RBI single hit to the shortstop by Lexi Childers.

Allyson O'Dell extended the Pioneer lead to 6-0 when she blasted a two-run home run over the centerfield fence in the top of the third. Nunn provided Transylvania's final run in the 7-2 victory when she scored O'Dell on with an RBI single through the left side in the top of the fifth.

In game two, the Pioneers jumped out to an early lead when Annie Schuck drove in a run with a single to left field in the top of the first.

Transylvania took total control of the game for good in the top of the second as the Pioneers exploded for six runs on six hits by five different batters.

The Pioneers added two final runs to the scoreboard in the top of the third as Schuck slapped an RBI single up the middle. Altogether, Schuck went 3-for-3 with three RBI on the day.

Cece Wittry picked up the win in the circle after pitching three scoreless innings. The senior tallied three strikeouts and didn't surrender a walk in the victory.

The Pioneers will be back in action tomorrow afternoon when they return home for a non-conference doubleheader against the Spalding University Golden Eagles. First pitch between the Pioneers and Golden Eagles is set for 3:00 p.m. at Hall Field.
