HCAC TOURNAMENT HEADQUARTERS
Lexington, Ky. – The Transylvania softball team will host and compete in the 2021 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Softball Tournament this Thursday, May 13 through Saturday, May 15 at Hall Field on the campus of Transylvania University.
The Pioneers (26-8 overall, 14-2 HCAC) captured a share of the HCAC regular season championship for the first time since the 2018 season to earn the No. 1 seed and hosting rights in this week's five-team conference tournament.
Transylvania welcomes No. 2 seed Mount St. Joseph (27-8, 14-2), No. 3 Anderson (13-19, 9-7), No. 4 Hanover (12-17, 9-7), and No. 5 Franklin (19-13, 8-8) to Lexington for the 2021 edition of the conference championships. The winning team of the double-elimination format tournament will clinch the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Softball Championships, beginning May 21.
After last year's conference championships and NCAA postseason were cancelled due to the pandemic, the Pioneers enter the 2021 conference tournament as the most recent champion, winning at Mount St. Joseph in the 2019 HCAC Tournament in three straight games. The Pioneers ride into the 2021 conference tournament on a season-high 13 game win streak.
The Pioneers have won the conference championship in two of the last three full HCAC seasons. This marks the third time Transylvania has hosted the HCAC Tournament since the 2016 season.
Transylvania is led in the circle by 2019 HCAC Pitcher of the Year, senior Kameron Bowling, and senior Cece Wittry. Bowling boasts a 13-6 record this year and leads the conference in wins while Wittry ranks top-four in the HCAC in wins with an 11-1 record. Offensively, the Pioneers are led by junior Taylor Senter, who leads the league in batting average with a .464 BA, junior Annie Schuck, who ranks fourth in the HCAC in batting average (.439), and sophomore Abby Frazier, who is hitting .416 on the year and ranks second in conference with 18 stolen bases.
Transylvania University is permitting visiting spectators for the 2021 HCAC Softball Tournament.
