Granville, Ohio – The Transylvania women's soccer team held strong defensively but were undone by a goal in the closing minutes to fall 1-0 against the Denison University Big Red on Friday evening at Barclay-Thomsen Field.
The Pioneers drop to 2-2 on the season following the loss while the Big Red move to 3-0 on the year.
Denison began the game by pressuring the Pioneers and maintaining possession in the attacking half.
Morgan Patton stayed true in the first half by collecting four saves and keeping the Pioneers within striking distance.
Allison O'Hara tested the Big Red goalkeeper in the 32
nd minute with a simmering shot but a save was made at the near post.
The Pioneers' defense showed intensity early in the second half while keeping the battle in the midfield. Patton remained steady in goal while making five more saves prior to the 80
th minute. Denison broke through in the 81
st minute after a cross was deflected from close range for the lone score of the day.
Morgan Patton delivered a gutsy performance by facing 11 shots on goal and making a season-high 10 saves for the night.
The Pioneers have a quick turnaround as they stay on the road to take on the Kenyon College Ladies in Gambier, Ohio on Saturday afternoon. The game is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. at McBride Field.
