Transylvania women's soccer wins in dominant fashion against Wilmington on Sunday

Cincinnati, Ohio – The Transylvania women's soccer team displayed a dominant attacking effort in a 4-1 victory against the Wilmington College Quakers at Scheuler Field in Cincinnati, Ohio on Sunday afternoon.

Transylvania earned its second win of the season to improve to 2-1 while the Quakers fell to 0-3 after the first week of the regular season.

After dominating possession for the opening 25 minutes, the Pioneers earned a free kick in the attacking half. Audrey Rawls stepped up to take the kick and whipped in a cross into a dangerous area. Abby Dean finished the attack by beating the keeper to head home the opening goal for the Pioneers.

The second goal for the Pioneers also came on a free kick. Rawls finished the effort herself with a thumping shot from 23 yards out to double the lead for Transylvania. Emilie Yates joined the scoring barrage just minutes after the second goal. The senior collected the ball on the left side of the field and dribbled around multiple Quaker defenders to fire home a third goal in the 34th minute, sending the Pioneers to halftime with a 3-0 advantage.

Positive momentum was on the Pioneers side as they entered the second half. Meaghan Curren dispossessed a Quaker attacker in the defensive half and launched a ball to Yates with a long pass over the top of the Wilmington defense. Yates caught the goalkeeper off her line and chipped a shot over her grasp to collect her brace and a 4-0 Pioneer lead. The Quakers would find a consolation goal in the 68th minute but the Pioneers collected the 4-1 victory in commanding fashion.

The Pioneers will hit the road again next weekend and travel to Granville, Ohio to take on the Denison University Big Red on Saturday, September 11th. The match is scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. start.
