Hot-Hitting Bats roll to combined score of 45-1 in two wins to start the season

Danville, Ky. - The Transylvania softball team started their season in excellent form as the hot-hitting bats won back to back mercy rule games at the Centre College Invite, winning both games by a combined score of 45-1.

Against the Spalding University Golden Eagles, the game started slow offensively, as both teams adjusted to the start of the season. In the bottom of the second, pitcher Carlee Jeter broke open the scoring for the Pioneers, slugging a two run homer. Jeter had an impressive pitching performance, with seven strikeouts and just one hit allowed.

The flood gates opened in the bottom of the third. The Pioneers made the most out of almost every at-bat, scoring an astonishing 21 runs in the inning. Transylvania was hitting the ball all over the field, including homers from Alyssa Nunn and Emily Hestand. The Pios also brought in runs behind triples from Taylor Senter, Ry'Ann Tharp, and Annie Schuck. Senter had a total of five RBI in the game, setting a new career high.

Transylvania took the game by a final score of 28-0, where they outhit the Golden Eagles 22-2.

The Pioneers then took on the Olivet College Comets and continued to roll. Their scoring began in the third inning when Nunn stole home. Triples by Schuck and Wulker led to a six run inning. With Marlee Woodward keeping the Comets in check with great pitching, the Pioneers built up a 9-1 lead. Transylvania exploded again in the fifth and touched home eight times. A Wulker home run and a triple from Zoey Fuller led the charge.

The game ended in the fifth with a 17-1 Transylvania victory, where they finished with 17 hits and allowed just 2.

The Pioneers will look to build off of their remarkable performance in the Centre Invite on Sunday, as they take on the Centre College Colonels at 11:00 AM, and will play Olivet again at 1:30 PM.
