Lexington, Ky. - The Transylvania University softball team will host and compete in the 2022 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Softball Tournament, beginning this Thursday, May 5th and running through Saturday, May 7th at John & Donna Hall Field on the campus of Transylvania University.
This is the second consecutive season that the Pioneers will be hosting the HCAC Softball Tournament, after earning back to back regular season championship titles.Â
The No. 1 Pioneers (26-10 overall, 14-2 HCAC) will play host to the No. 2 Mount St. Joseph Lions (28-9 overall, 12-4 HCAC), No. 3 Defiance Yellow Jackets (21-13 overall, 10-6 HCAC), No. 4 Franklin Grizzlies (20-17 overall, 10-6 HCAC), and No. 5 Hanover Panthers (15-17 overall, 10-6 HCAC). The tournament is a double-elimination format, and the final champion will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Softball Championships which begin Thursday, May 12th.Â
Last season the Pioneers took second place in the HCAC tournament. This year they look to bounce back and reclaim their throne atop the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.Â
This Pioneer softball team is led by seniors Taylor Senter, Annie Schuck, Alyssa Nunn, Jordyn Powell, and Becca Messing. Along with sophomore Stella Wulker who leads the HCAC in batting average and total hits, Wulker was also last season's Newcomer of the Year. In the pitcher's circle, the Pioneers are led by sophomore Carlee Jeter who leads the conference in total wins.
