FRANKLIN, Ind- The Transylvania Women's Soccer team moved to 12-4-1 and 7-2 in HCAC play. Wrapping up the regular season in dominating fashion, the Pioneers won their 7th HCAC match of the season, and will play host to the first round of the HCAC playoffs this weekend, Saturday the 28th.
The Pioneers and the Grizzlies wouldn't score in the first half, however this didn't deter some flashes as the Pioneers would have 6 shots and 1 corner to the Grizzlies 1 total shot this half. Transy would dominate this game, applying most of the pressure.
This game would head into halftime scoreless until the 65th minute of the half as Maddi Benjamin scored her 6th goal of her career, setting a new career high as she had 5 lasr season. Benjamin scored her 6Â goal of the season due to Tara Pund's assist, giving her 6 on the season.
The Pioneers come into this game locked into hosting the first round of the HCAC playoffs but with the win, Transy solidifies their spot as host.Â
This was only possible due to the terrific goalie play as Carrie Stevens posted yet another clean sheet, shutting out the Grizzly attack commanding the defense. Her communication from behind the defense was imperative in keeping Franklin at bay to never allow chances to tie it.Â
"It's great to always get a win on the road and when you add a clean sheet in, it's even better," Co-Head Coach Marcus Aldaba said. "The team had a great regular season and we will try our best to prolong the postseason beginning Saturday."
The Pioneers will be at home this weekend as they start postseason play at Pat Deacon Stadium on the 28th.Â
