LEXINGTON, KY - Transylvania University is headed to the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) semifinals after defeating the sixth seeded Franklin Grizzlies at Pat Deacon Stadium on Saturday night. 

The first thirty plus minutes of the evening saw both teams working hard to gain possession and find scoring opportunities. The Pioneers would take six shots before finding their first goal, a penalty kick from Maddi Benjamin at 36:29. After a physical and competitive first half, the Pioneers would continue to relentlessly find opportunities at the goal. Ciana Araya would land the second Transylvania goal, assisted by Abbey Rowe, at the 58:06 mark of the second half. Transy would continue to push, as Rowe and Isabella White would find shots later in the half, saved by Franklin. The Grizzlies landed a goal at the 73 minute mark, and despite an increased intensity and pace, the Pioneers defense would hold strong to secure a 2-1 victory and advance to the semifinals of the HCAC Tournament. 

Co-Head Coach Ashley Reinecke is excited to get back to work and prepare for the next round of HCAC competition. 

"Despite our missed opportunities at the goal, the team did enough to ensure our place in the semifinal. I'm proud of their consistent work rate and I am excited to prepare for our next match."

Transylvania will travel to take on the second seed, Rose-Hulman, in the semifinals of the HCAC Tournament on Wednesday, November 6th at 7 p.m.
