ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. - No. 9 Transy Softball earned their second top-25 win of the season on Friday afternoon. The Pioneers defeated No. 24 Calvin University 10-3 in their opening game of the 2024 Pioneer Classic. Transylvania scored in all but one inning.
Sophie Moshos improved to 4-0 on the season. She went 4.1 innings, striking out 4 batters and allowing 3 hits.
Carlee Jeter pitched in relief, allowing 1 hit over 2.2 innings.
TU got things rolling right away. Stella Walker's RBI double gave Transy a 2-0 lead, and she would later score off of
Izzy Story's RBI single. Wulker would earn her 2nd hit and 3rd RBI of the game the next inning to extend the Pioneer lead to 4 runs.
Emily Sizemore made it a 5-0 lead on a sacrifice fly in the 5th.
Transy scored 3 more runs in the 4th inning, as Wulker earned her 3rd of 6 RBI's with a single down the left field line. Story would score Wulker and
Ella Steczynski later in the inning with a 2 run double.
Calvin put runs on the board in the 5thinning, capitalizing on a fielding error and hitting opportunities. However, Transylvania quickly responded in the 6th inning, with Wulker's double to right center driving in 2 more runs. Transy sent Calvin down in order in the 7th for the 10-3 win.Â
Stella Wulker finished 4-4 with 6 RBI's, tying a career high in both stat categories.
Transylvania is now 8-1 on the season and have beaten 2 top-25 opponents.Â
