ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. - The No. 9 ranked Transylvania Softball finished the 2024 Pioneer Classic after losing two very close games this afternoon to Dominican and DePauw.
Game 1 - Dominican 2, Transylvania 1
Dominican scored their only two runs of the game on a two run home run in the third inning. After a walk with one out, the Stars made it 2-0.
The Pioneers broke the shutout as
Stella Wulker hit her second home run and eighth RBI of the tournament over the right center field fence to cut the deficit to one run.
Sophie Moshos put the Stars down in order in the top half of the seventh inning. In the bottom half of the seventh,
Jordan Fico reached second base after walking with one out and advancing on a wild pitch, but the Pioneers couldn't score her and would fall 1-2.
Ella Steczynski led TU with two hits.
Game 2, DePauw 7, Transy 6 - 8 innings
Transylvania jumped on DePauw early, scoring five runs in the first three innings.
Carson Murray's two run double gave Transy an early lead.
Ella Steczynski flew out to right field to score a run in the third inning to make it 3-0 the following inning.
Stella Wulker continued her hot streak with an RBI double down the left field line to make it 4-0, and
Addy Mack would score on a double steal to make it 5-0.
DePauw clawed back and scored five unanswered runs with one in the third, two in the fourth, and two in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game.
In the top of the eighth inning, Transy scored on Wulker's twelfth hit and tenth RBI of the tournament, a single that scored Steczynski.
DePauw tied the game on an error, and would score the game winning run on a one out single to win the game 7-6.
Dakota Burke and
Stella Wulker led Transy with three hits each.
Carson Murray finished 2-3 with two RBI's.
Up next: No. 9 Transylvania faces Maryville (Ten.) this Tuesday in their first home games of the season. First pitch of game one is set for 3:30.
