HANOVER, Ind. - The No. 25th ranked Transylvania Softball team swept Hanover on the road Tuesday afternoon to improve to 11-1 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. The Pioneers won game one 4-1 before taking down the Panthers in 5 innings in game two, 9-0.
Game one: Transy 4, Hanover 1
Sophie Moshos earned her 10th win of the season after pitching 4 innings and giving up no runs. She struck out 4 batters in route to the win.
Carlee Jeter picked up her first save of the season after pitching the final 3 innings.
Dakota Burke,
Avery Parsons, and
Jordan Fico led the offense with 2 hits each, while Parsons and Burke added an RBI each.
Ella Steczynski put Transylvania up 1-0 in the 3rd inning with a single up the middle to score
Katie Mewes.
Ry'Ann Tharp doubled in the 4th inning to score
Avery Parsons, and Burke singled to score
Reagan Rouleau for the 3-0 lead. The Pioneers added insurance in the 7th on a sacrifice fly by
Avery Parsons for the 4-0 lead.
Hanover broke the shutout in the bottom of the 7th, but would ground into a fielder's choice to end the game.
Game two: Transy 9, Hanover 0
The Pioneers earned their 7th win of the season by mercy rule. It was their 8th shutout of the season.
Carlee Jeter continued her impressive streak in the circle, winning her 8th game in a row to improve to 12-3 on the season. She pitched 2 innings and allowed no hits.
Trinity Bridges came in relief, tossing 3 scoreless innings and allowing just 1 hit. Hanover's lone hit of the game came in the third inning.
Transylvania's offense combined for 8 hits in game two, with
Ella Steczynski and
Izzy Story leading the charge with 2 hits each. Steczynski, Story,
Stella Wulker, and
Emily Sizemore all had extra base hits in the win.
8 of Transy's 9 runs came in the 2nd inning.
Emily Sizemore doubled to score
Izzy Story, and
Reagan Rouleau followed with a bunt single to score
Stella Wulker. An error by the Panther pitcher brought in a pair of Pioneers for the 4-0 lead.
Dakota Burke brought in
Katie Mewes with a single to left field, and back to back sacrifice fly's by
Avery Parsons and
Carson Murray brought the lead to 7-0.
Stella Wulker doubled to bring in
Izzy Story for the inning's final run.
Up 8-0 in the 5th,
Katie Mewes scored on a throwing error by the catcher on a steal by
Ava Manning.
With the win, Transy improves to 24-7 on the season. They're now 26-7 all time against Hanover, winning the last 5 matchups. They've swept Hanover for the 2nd straight season.
Up next: Currently in 2nd in the HCAC standings at 11-1, Transy will look to add to their 7 game winning streak as they take on Defiance College this Saturday. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1 PM.
