MONTGOMERY, AL. - Transylvania Softball kicked off the 2024 NCAA Softball tournament in Montgomery, Alabama to compete in the Huntingdon Regional. Transylvania, Huntingdon, Maryville, and Berry are all participating in the regional.
Transylvania opened the regional against host school Huntingdon, and
defeated the Hawks 2-0 behind a complete game 7 strikeout performance by
Sophie Moshos, who earned her 16th win of the season. Moshos did not allow a single Hawk to reach third base in the win.
In what turned out to be a pitching duel, the Pioneers came out on top thanks to a clutch
2-run home run by HCAC Newcomer of the Year
Dakota Burke, who earned her 2nd home run and 31st RBI of the season. Both teams recorded just 4 hits on the afternoon.
Transylvania earns their first opening game win in the NCAA tournament and advance to the winners bracket after the first day for the first time since 2019. The Pioneers will face a family foe in Maryville College (TN) tomorrow at 11 AM. Both teams met earlier this season, with the Scots sweeping the Pioneers in March.
The win was the 10th in a row for Transy, who earned their 35th victory of the season, passing last year's win total of 34.
