Barr's 25 Point Double Double Leads Pioneers Past Dubuque

DAYTONA BEACH, FL - Transylvania closed their trip to Daytona Beach at the Sunrise Shootout with an impressive victory over Dubuque. 

The Pioneers hit a quick start with their offense, as Hunter Barr, Jaxon Smith and Drew Marshall scored consecutively to open an early 7-0 advantage. A block from Sam Stone opened up a fast break that led to another three-pointer for Smith, as Transylvania continued to roll. Luke Idlett would start a fast break with a steal and pass to a driving Dakota Capps that allowed Transylvania to extend their lead into double figures with 12:21 remaining in the opening half. After a run from Dubuque, Transylvania closed the first half with a strong push as a jumper from Capps would push the Pioneers back up to 11, after seeing their advantage fall to three points. They would carry an eight point lead into the halftime break. 

Barr and Marshall opened the second half with consecutive unanswered baskets, followed by two free-throws from Dakota Capps to push the lead to 16. Barr would score on a dunk and two trips to the free-throw line to put the Pioneers up by as many as 19. After a basket from Capps, J.C. Walbert scored on a jumper that pushed the lead to 23 with 10 minutes remaining in the game. Beginning at the 08:19 mark, Barr would score the next eight points for the Pioneers, before a dunk from Sam Stone at the 01:55 mark put the lead back to 20 for Transylvania. The Pioneers would maintain their advantage, earning a 61-45 victory to cap 2025. 

Barr's 25 points and 13 rebounds, along with four blocks and two steals, led the way for Transylvania. Dakota Capps followed with 10 points, six rebounds and four assists. Drew Marshall grabbed 10 rebounds in the win along with four points four assists and two steals. 

Transylvania enters 2026 at 6-5 overall with an HCAC match up next on their schedule, as they will travel to Anderson on Saturday, January 3rd.
