Transylvania Goes 2-0 In 2025 Pioneer Classic

ELIZABETHTOWN, KY - Transylvania earned two victories on Friday at the 2025 Pioneer Classic before the remainder of the event was canceled due to weather and field conditions. 

Game 1: Transylvania 5, John Carrol 0

The first match up of the 2025 Pioneer Classic for Transylvania was John Carrol. 

After both teams went scoreless through the first four innings, the Pioneers scored all five runs in the top of the fifth. The first two runs came from an RBI's from Jordan Fico, the next two came from RBI's from Ella Steczynski. The final run of the fifth, and afternoon for the Pioneers, came from a line out from Dakota Burke. Emilie Young led Transylvania with three hits on four at bats, while Reagan Rouleau recorded two hits at two at bats. The Pioneers stole seven bases in the win, two from Steczynski. Emily Shearer, Ry'Ann Tharp, Reagan Rouleau, Ella Steczynski and 
Jordan Fico all recorded runs in the victory.

Reagan Gibson pitched first for Transylvania, only giving up four hits and no runs in three and one third innings of action. Natalie Contreras pitched three innings, giving up no runs, and struck out three batters. Transylvania only gave up four hits to John Carrol. 

Game 2: Transylvania 7, Elmhurst 1

The second match up of the 2025 Pioneer Classic in Elizabethtown was with Elmhurst. 

Transylvania got on the board with a run from Steczynski after Burke grounded out at first. Steczynski would score again in the bottom of the third, followed by Katie Mewes stealing home to take a 3-1 advantage. Transylvania would score three runs in the fourth to continue their strong offensive start. Rouleau scored after Goddard hit a groundball to third base, Shearer stole home followed by another stolen run at home from Tharp. Steczynski scored the final run of the afternoon for the Pioneers in the bottom of the sixth inning. 

Transylvania had 16 stolen bases in the victory, a new record in the statistic for the team. Goddard gave up one run and no hits over two innings, striking out two batters. Contreras returned to the mound for two innings, only giving up two hits and no runs. Trinity Bridges pitched two and one quarter innings, giving up no hits or runs and striking out two batters. 

The remainder of the 2025 Pioneer Classic was canceled due to weather and field conditions, giving Transylvania a 2-0 record at the event. 

Transylvania returns to action on Saturday, March 29th, hosting a double-header with Rose-Hulman at 1:00 and 3:00 at John and Donna Hall Field.
