BLUFFTON, OH - Transylvania earned two road wins to improve to an impressive 22-3, defeating Bluffton in a double header on Tuesday to earn two additional Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) victories. The Pioneers stand at 8-0 in the HCAC.
Game One: Transylvania 4, Bluffton 3
Transylvania fell behind 0-3 in the first inning but would rally late to take the victory. In the fourth, Avery Parsons doubled to right center, allowing Reagan Rouleau to score for an RBI for Parsons. In the sixth, Maddie Goddard singled through the left side and advanced to second base on the throw, she would earn two RBI's as Emilie Young and Rouleau scored to tie the game at 3-3.
Ry'Ann Tharp reached first base on a dropped fly ball, allowing Parsons to score the go-ahead run. Transylvania would earn the win, 4-3.
Natalie Contreras earned the victory at the mound, pitching five innings and allowing no hits and no runs in the process.
Game Two: Transylvania 9, Bluffton 1
Avery Parsons scored the first run of the second game after Steczynski grounded out to the shortstop for an RBI. Goddard singled up the middle to allow Rouleau to score for an RBI. In the second, Parsons grounded out to second base, but earned an RBI as Shearer scored to take a 3-0 lead for the Pioneers.
In the fourth, Tharp stole second base and Burke scored on a wild pitch. Shearer earned an RBI as she singled to third base on a bunt and Tharp scored. Parsons flew out on a sac fly to left field, but earned an RBI as Shearer scored. Transylvania led 6-0 entering the bottom of the fourth.
Bluffton would score a run in the fourth, but the Pioneers would continue their impressive performance. Goddard hit a home run to left field in the fifth, Fico singled to center field to earn two RBI's as Mewes and Shearer scored.
Transylvania would earn the 9-1 victory to sweep the afternoon double header.
Trinity Bridges would earn the victory at the mound, pitching five innings and only allowing three hits and one run, she struck out six batters in the performance.
