LEXINGTON, KY - Transylvania closed out the regular season with a sweep of Mount St. Joseph and Earlham, earning the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) regular season title, and the right to host the 2025 HCAC Tournament and John and Donna Hall Field this week.Â
On Monday, the Pioneers defeated Mount St. Joseph (MSJ) 7-1 and 9-8. In the first game the Pioneers scored four runs in the seventh to secure the victory late.
Avery Parsons hit a home run that sent
Katie Mewes home, followed by a single to right center field from
Emily Shearer allowing
Emilie Young and
Ella Steczynski to score. Transylvania had 13 hits in the victory along with seven RBI's.
Raegan Gibson earned the win at the mound with five innings pitched, only allowing three hits and one run with one strike out. In the second game, the Pioneers found themselves down after six runs from MSJ in the fourth inning, but Transylvania rallied late with two runs in the fifth, three in the sixth and one in the seventh to earn a 9-8 victory. The sixth inning saw Young single to center field and advance to second, earning an RBI as Parsons scored. Shearer singled to the pitcher, earning an RBI as
Reagan Rouleau scored. In the seventh, Mewes reached first on a fielding error and advanced to third,
Taylor Ingram scored the winning run.Â
Following the two road victories, Transylvania retutned to John and Donna Hall Field for a double header victory over Earlham. The first victory came after the Pioneers scored six runs in the second inning to take a 7-1 lead. Goddard, Tharp, Ingram, Mewes, Parsons and Rouleau all scored in the second inning. In the fourth inning, Shearer scored on a single to left field from Fico, Fico would then score from a single to right center field from Parsons. Gibson earned another victory at the mound, pitching four innings and only allowing three hits and one run with one error, two walked batters and one strike out. Transylvania earned the victory with an 11-1 final score. In the second victory, a 6-3 win, the Pioneers scored three runs in the third inning and three in the fifth inning. Earlham would score three runs in the sixth, but Transylvania would maintain their lead to close the regular season with their 29th victory.Â
Transylvania claims the top seed in the 2025 HCAC Softball Tournament and the Regular Season Title, they will host the HCAC Tournament and John and Donna Hall Field on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.Â
