GREENSBORO, N.C. — Transylvania sophomore
Andy Steed (Wilmington, OH) delivered the biggest individual performance of his collegiate career Tuesday, capturing medalist honors at the 2026 Gate City Invitational with a 54-hole total of 3-under par at historic Forest Oaks Country Club. The win earned Steed his 3rd tournament title.
Steed emerged from one of the strongest fields in NCAA Division III golf to take home the individual championship. The Gate City field featured eight teams ranked in the Bushnell/Golfweek GCAA Division III Top 25 and five additional programs receiving votes.
After opening the tournament with a 1-under-par 71, Steed remained in contention through Monday's second round before closing the championship with an even-par 72 on Tuesday. His final round featured a strong finish: after turning in 1-over 37, Steed played the back nine in 1-under 35 to secure the individual title.
The sophomore's final round included birdies at the par-3 third and par-4 14th, and he played his final nine holes without a bogey. His 213 (-3) total was enough to claim medalist honors in a field loaded with many of the nation's top players.
Steed's victory highlighted the week for No. 16 Transylvania, which finished ninth at 28-over par. The Pioneers posted rounds of +4, +13 and +11 for the 54-hole event. Transylvania finished immediately behind No. 12 Oglethorpe and one shot ahead of No. 20 Babson.
No. 2 Huntingdon captured the team championship at 9-under, followed by No. 9 Kenyon (-5) and Shenandoah (-2). Huntingdon's championship came after it held the lead through the opening 36 holes.

The result gave Transylvania a top-10 finish against a field in which 13 of the 17 primary teams were either nationally ranked or receiving votes.
For Steed, the week ended with something even bigger — a Gate City Invitational individual championship and medalist honors at 3-under par against one of Division III's deepest early-season fields.
