Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. - Transylvania dropped an 11-inning thriller to Bethany Monday in the the NTC Spring Games, then fell to Wisconsin Stout 3-1 in its second game of the day.
Transy is 1-6-1 while Bethany is 4-1. Wisconsin Stout moved its record to 7-5. It was the Pioneers' second day of play in the Spring Games, which conclude on Friday. Transy will play a total of 10 games.
Transy took a 6-5 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning against Bethany. But the Bisons tied it in the bottom of the seventh, then scored single runs in each of the four extra innings. When the Pioneers were kept off the board in the top of the 11th, Bethany got the win.
Bethany and Transy each had 15 hits and the Pioneers were led by
Jessica Pierce, who had four hits and scored a run.
Anne Broadhead,
Emily McCarty,
Chelsea Meiners, and
Alex Spainhour each contributed two hits and McCarty drove in two.
Megan Mitchell cracked a two-run single for the Pioneers.
Olivia Wall started the game and pitched into the third for Transy.
Kaitlyn Foree relieved and went the rest of the way, allowing four earned runs with three strikeouts. Bethany's Emily Jump pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts and and three earned runs.
In the second game, Transy fell behind 1-0 in the first inning only to have Mitchell, a third-team All-American as a freshman, bash a majestic home run to straight-away center field in the second to tie it up. But Stout got single runs in the fourth and fifth to get the decision.
Stout out-hit Transy 8-4 and the Pioneers' other hits were from Broadhead, Meiners, and Pierce.
Kendra DeArk went the distance for Transy, fanning 10 without issuing a walk. In her two Florida starts, the senior has 22 strikeouts without issuing a base on balls.
The Pioneers will continue their 10-game appearance in the NTC Classic Tuesday, taking on Cortland and Salve Regina, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Transy will enjoy an off day on Wednesday.
