Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. - Transylvania first baseman
Alex Spainhour singled home the winning run with one out in the eighth inning Friday, lifting the Pioneers to a 6-5 extra inning victory over Wisconsin Superior in the NTC Spring Games at Clermont, Fla.
The Pioneers won their fourth game in a row before completing their Florida trip with a 10-3 loss to Bates. That left Transy with 5-8-1 record overall. UW-Superior is 3-3 while Bates remained unbeaten in three Florida games.
Transy took a 2-0 lead in the third when
Emily McCarty followed a walk to
Alicia Winans with her first home run of the year. The Pioneers again used the long ball in the sixth to grab a 5-4 lead.
Megan Mitchell pounded a two-run jack after
Michelle Ladanyi's lead-off double to make it 4-4 and
Chelsea Meiners gave Transy the lead with a walk, a passed ball advane, a steal of third, and a throwing error by the catcher.
Superior tied the game in the bottom of the seventh, setting the scene for the Pioneers' winning rally in the eighth.
Olivia Wall got the win by pitching the final 3.2 innings, allowing one run and three hits in relief of starter
Kendra DeArk.
Mitchell's homer was her fifth of the year and the fourth of the Florida trip. Ladanyi also had two hits.
Transy and Bates was locked in a 1-1 duel until the top of the seventh when the Bobcats exploded for nine runs.
Anne Broadhead, McCarty, Ladanyi, and Spainhour had hits for the Pioneers.
Kaitlyn Foree went the first 6.2 innings and took the loss. Heading into the seventh, she had allowed just three hits with three strikeouts and one walk. Of the 16 hits in the game, 15 were singles.
Transy will open its home season at Hall Field on Thursday, hosting Thomas More in a 3:30 p.m. doubleheader. The Pioneers begin their defense of the Heartland Conference championship on Saturday, taking on Rose-Hulman at 1 p.m. at Hall Field
