LEXINGTON, Ky. - Transylvania's
Christian King scored the game-tying goal Wednesday, but Wilmington got the first score in overtime and the Quakers took a 3-2 decision over the Pioneers at Thomas Field.
Playing its second overtime game in a row, Transy fell to 1-3-1 on the season while Wilmington is 3-2-1.
Transy struck first as
Kyle Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio, LaSalle) took a pass from
Tony Spero (Lexington, KY, Dunbar), taking a back angle cross and putting it in the back corner in the 16th minute.
Wilmington tied the score at the 21:07 mark on a 25-yard shot that went in off a deflection.
The game was tied at halftime and the Quakers took their first lead at the 54:09 mark when a free kick found the upper left corner.
Spero (Lexington, KY, Dunbar)'s goal, his second of the year, came in the 61st minute when his low shot found the left side of the net.
Wilmington's game winner just cleared the left post 3:50 into the overtime period.
The Quakers outshot the Pioneers 14-12 but the Pioneers had a 3-2 edge in corners. Transy keepers
Alex Schmitt (Ft. Mitchell, Ky., Villa Madonna) and
Taylor Nossokoff (Lexington, KY, Dunbar) combined for six saves.
Transy is back in action on Saturday, hosting Ohio Northern at 1 p.m. at Thomas Field.
