KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Transylvania wrapped up its Spring Break trip to Florida Friday with wins over Lake Forest and Austin in the Rebel Spring Games.
The Pioneers won three of their last four games in the event and were 4-4 overall while playing in Kissimmee. Transy will bring an overall record of 5-9-1 back to Kentucky.
Transy topped Lake Forest 6-4 in the first game, with
Kaitlyn Foree getting the win and
Elizabeth Young the save. In the second game, an 8-0 five-inning decision over Austin, Young combined with
Emily Hampton on a four-hit shutout.
In the opener, some shaky defense by both teams left Transy with a 5-2 advantage after three innings. Lake Forest added single runs in the fourth and sixth innings, but the Pioneers answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the sixth and Young got the save by getting the final four outs, permitting just a single hit.
Foree won for the third time on the year by allowing nine hits and four runs, one earned, with two strikeouts and a walk.
Michelle Ladanyi had two hits and three RBI for Transy while
Alyssa Oakley added two hits and drove in two more.
Emily McCarty contributed two hits and scored twice.
In the second game, Transy led 1-0 in the first after Oakley drove in Ladanyi with a single and it was 3-0 in the third when McCarty led off with a double and Ladanyi followed with a triple. She would score on an RBI groundout by Hamilton.
The Pioneers broke the contest open with five runs in the fourth inning.
Chelsea Meiners had the big hit, a two-run single that brought home
Cassie Hamilton and
Megan Mitchell.
Meiners, Ladanyi, Oakley, and Hampton each had two RBI as the Pioneers amassed 10 hits.
Transy will make its first appearance at Hall Field on Thursday, hosting Heartland Conference rival Mt. St. Joseph at 3:30 p.m.
