LEXINGTON, Ky. - Anderson used a five-run fourth-inning rally Sunday to take a 7-4 Heartland Conference baseball win over Transylvania at Marquard Field.
Anderson (9-6, 2-1 HCAC) took two of three from the Pioneers (6-9, 1-2) in the opening series of the conference season.
Transy grabbed a 2-0 lead in the second on run-scoring hits by
Ken Riley and
Sam Liggett. Freshman starter
Matt Morgan (1-3) cruised into the fourth before Anderson reached him for five runs on six hits. A Transy error also figured into the scoring.
Johnny Renz tripled to lead off the bottom of the fourth and he scored on a Riley fly ball. Transy would get a second run when
Zach Bynum tacked on an RBI double.
Anderson completed the scoring with two runs in the seventh. The Pioneers were outhit 12-9 in the contest. Renz had three hits and scored a run for Transy and Liggett added two hits. Riley drove in a pair of runs.
Morgan was followed to the mound by
Ryan James,
Jamie King,
Shelby Dixon, and
Danny Niehaus, who combined two runs and three hits with three strikeouts and a pair of walks. Morgan had a strikeout and no walks in 3.2 innings.
Transy will face Hanover at home on Tuesday in an HCAC matchup that begins at 4 p.m.
