ASBURY, Ky. - Transylvania senior
Kaitlyn Foree won her eighth game of the year Monday and
Emily McCarty and
Michelle Ladanyi combined for four hits and five RBI as the Pioneers defeated Asbury 6-4 to split a softball doubleheader with the Eagles.
Transy improved to 17-15-1 overall after splitting with the NAIA Eagles, who are 18-24.
Foree (8-7) got the win by going seven innings and allowing eight hits and four runs, three earned. She struck out two and walked two.
The Pioneers scored two in the first and led 3-2 heading into the fifth inning when the visitors put three runs on the board. McCarty's two-run double was the big hit in the frame and Ladanyi added an RBI groundout.
Asbury never scored more than one run in any inning.
Chelsea Meiners scored two runs for the Pioneers.
In the second game, a 5-0 win for Asbury, the Pioneers had just three hits, including a double by
Cassie Hamilton.
Emily Hampton (0-4) took the loss, giving up four earned runs with three strikeouts and one walk. She was pressed into duty due to illness by
Elizabeth Young.
Asbury scored twice in the second and once in the third to take a 3-0 lead. The Eagles added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
The Pioneers return to Heartland Conference play on Tuesday when they travel to Hanover for a doubleheader.
