ANDERSON, Ind. - Kicking off the conference season with a 6-0 blowout, Transylvania men's soccer trampled foe Anderson University on the road Saturday.
"As the game was our opening HCAC match, we wanted to make sure we came out aggressive, putting Anderson under immediate pressure," said Head Coach Brandon Bowman.ÂÂ
Transylvania did just that, with senior
Eric Froschauer scoring the first two goals of the game.
"The key for us was starting out strong," said Coach Bowman. "Scoring early helped create momentum throughout the match."
The Pioneers continued a consistent string of attacks, with senior
Kyle Smith notching one more goal before halftime.
"We didn't need to change much at half," said Coach Bowman. "We simply needed to continue to defend well and break them down with our movement and passing."
Shortly into the second half, junior
Ryan Stallings made an unassissted goal, contributing to the team's steady stream of points. Minutes later, Smith scored his second unassisted goal of the game.
Anderson couldn't recover. Freshman
Matt Gammon set the final score at 6-0 when he scored his first goal of the season off an assist from
Eric Froschauer.
With two goals and one assist, Froschauer and Smith were offensive leaders against Anderson, but Coach Bowman credits the whole team, saying that each player came out and contributed to a "team win."
"We played with a lot of energy and put anderson under a lot of pressure defensively, while maintaining our composure in the attack," said Coach Bowman.
The Pioneer's hope to continue an undefeated conference record as they take on Hanover College at home on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
