LEXINGTON, Ky.- Freshman
Clay Douthat led all scorers with five goals as the Transylvania men's lacrosse team earned a 12-6 victory Wednesday over DePauw University.
Transy moves to 6-4 on the season, while DePauw falls to 0-7.
Transy was aided by the scores of six different Pioneers, including Douthat with five goals,
Ben Erwin with three goals, and
Sam Ives,
Evan Wright,
Alex Wesselman and
Alex Nugent all adding one score apiece.
The Pioneers never trailed in the contest after Erwin got on the board early with a goal at the 12 minute mark off a Douthat assist. Ives connected unassisted with four minutes to play in the first quarter, before Depauw's Andrew Bartucci scored to end the quarter.
Transy scored four unanswered goals to open the second quarter off another Erwin goal, two from Douthat and a Wright connection. The Pioneers would go into the half with a 6-1 lead.
The Pioneers went on to outscore the Tigers 6-5 in the second half of action.
In the net for the Pioneers, and earning his sixth win on the year was
Joshua Slone, who snagged eight saves on the contest.
Transy doubled the shot attempts of DePauw 42-21, and picked up more ground balls by a margin of 33-29.
The Pioneers are back in action this Friday at Thomas Field as they host Elmhurst College in their final home outing of the year.
