Hunter Voshell cracked a two-out two-run double in the eighth inning Sunday, boosting Transylvania past Franklin 6-3 in a Heartland Conference baseball matchup.
The Pioneers (18-16, 11-10 HCAC) salvaged the last of a three-game series with the win over the Grizzlies (19-17, 11-10). Transy had 12 hits in the contest, including a three-run homer by
Pete Travisano that put the Pioneers ahead 3-1 in the fourth inning.
Franklin came back to tie the score 3-3 with a run in the seventh.
In the top of the eighth,
Kameron Mason walked with one out and Travisano folowed with a single. After
John Michael Cowley flied out to left, Voshell pumped a double into right field, scoring both baserunners.
Transy added a run in the ninth on an RBI double by
Nick Edwards, scoring
Zach Bynum.
Matt Birkenhauer got the win with 1.2 innings of scoreless pitching in relief of starter
Blake Oyler. Oyler went 6.1 innings and allowed five hits and three runs with four strikeouts and four walks. Birkenhauer (3-1) had one strikeout and no walks.
Elliot Desilets got his seventh save by pitching around a hit and an error in the ninth. He also had a strikeout.
Edwards, Bynum, and
Graham Winchester each contributed two hits to the Transy attack with Winchester popping a pair of doubles.
Transy is back in action on Tuesday when the Pioneers travel to Hanover for an HCAC matchup with the Panthers.
