ANDERSON, Ind. - Transylvania jumped out to a 6-0 lead Friday and held off Anderson 7-4 in Heartland Conference baseball action.
The Pioneers improve to 10-10 on the season, 4-4 in HCAC action, while the Ravens are 9-11, 5-3 HCAC.
Transy scored twice in the third inning and four times in the fifth to take a 6-0 lead. Anderson came back with three scores in the bottom of the fifth and another run in the sixth before the Pioneers shut the door.
Jamie King (1-2) picked up the win with six innings of work. He allowed six hits and four runs with five strikeouts and three walks.
Matt Birkenhauer and
Elliot Desilets combined to cover the final three innings without allowing a run. They each allowed a hit and a walk with Desilets picking up his third save of the year.
Nick Edwards had a two-run single in the third inning for Transy.
Hunter Jones had a run-scoring single in the fifth and
Sam Liggett added an RBI single before
Zach Riney drove in two runs with another base hit.
Liggett and
Pete Travisano each had two hits and Travisano scored three runs for the Pioneers.
The three-game HCAC series with the Ravens continues on Saturday with a doubleheader, beginning at noon.
