Transy takes two of three from Anderson

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ANDERSON, Ind. - Transylvania used a late-inning comeback Saturday to take a 14-13 win over Anderson and split a Heartland Conference baseball doubleheader.

The Pioneers, who won Friday's series opener, lost to the Ravens 13-8 in the second game Saturday. Transy is 11-11 overall and 5-5 in HCAC play while Anderson is 10-12, 5-5 HCAC.

In the first game, Transy took a 5-0 lead behind starter Shelby Dixon heading into the bottom of the fifth. But Anderson responded with three runs in both the fifth and sixth innings and six more in the seventh to lead 12-7.

Transy responded with a five-run eighth inning to pull even at 12-12 only to see Anderson score one in the bottom of the eighth for a one-run lead. The Pioneers then put up two runs in the top of the ninth to pull ahead and Elliot Desilets pitched around a hit and a walk in the ninth to close out the game for his fourth save.

Royce Neeley (1-0) got the win after pitching the eighth, giving up an unearned run. Matt Birkenhauer and Zach Riney followed Dixon to the mound.

Graham Winchester had five hits and five RBI for the Pioneers, and hit his first home run of the season, a solo blast in the seventh inning. Zach Bynum added two hits and two RBI while Riney had two hits and three runs scored. Winchester scored twice for the Pioneers.

In the second game, Anderson jumped to a 7-0 lead after five innings, then held off a Transy rally attempt. The Pioneers scored five runs in the sixth to get within two runs, but the Ravens with a run in the bottom of the sixth and five more over the final two frames.

Winchester started and took the loss, dropping him to 1-1 on the season. He allowed five runs with one strikeout and one walk. He was followed to the mound by Ryan James, Kameron Schwartz, Mike Birkenhauer, and Nick Edwards.

Winchester had a double among three hits and four RBI while Zach Bynum added three hits, a run, and an RBI. Hunter Voshell added a hit, two runs, and a run batted in.

The Pioneers are back in action on Tuesday, hosting Mt. St. Joseph at 4 p.m. at Marquard Field.
