LEXINGTON, Ky.—The Transylvania University men's soccer team lost to visiting Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Franklin College on Tuesday night by a score of 4-0. The game, which was scheduled for a 7 p.m., was delayed by more than two hours after torrential rain, frequent lightning and tornado warnings in the area passed through the city.

The Grizzlies of Franklin were led by a hat trick from midfielder Austin Feudenberger. Freudenberger opened scoring in the 35th minute on an unassisted goal from 30 yards. He also scored goals in the 62nd and 84th minutes. Forward Antonio Gioe added a goal for Franklin in the 65th minute, putting a free kick from midfielder Austin Storm into the back of the net.

Freudenberger's first goal stood as the only scoring mark in the first half and the Pioneers went to the locker room at half down 1-0. The wet playing surface played a factor in the game, making it difficult to maintain possession and strike the ball with consistency.

Transy managed to put four of their seven shots on target but Franklin goalkeeper Cody Chapman recorded saves on all four shots in his direction. The Pioneers were led in shot attempts by midfielder Max Robinson who took three shots in the match.

The match was marked by an excessive amount of contact as a result of the slippery turf and saw 22 fouls in the match. The game turned chippy in the later stages as well, as Pioneers Tate Spivey, Nick Blackwell and Jacob Gantt received yellow cards and Daniel Mudd was assessed a red card after time expired.

With the loss, Transylvania slips to 5-5-0 on the season and 1-1-0 in HCAC play. The Pioneers will travel to Terra Haute, Indiana this weekend to take on HCAC opponent Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in their next match.
