Box Score LEXINGTON, Ky.—The Transylvania University men's soccer team put together a dominating offensive performance and defeated Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Anderson University on Saturday, 7-1.
The Pioneers scored goals at a blistering pace in the first half, tallying six scores in the first 45 minutes of the match. Freshman midfielder Riley Calhoon netted a goal in the 3rd minute, while sophomore midfielder Tanner Dice scored in the 13th minute, senior defender Daniel Mudd netted a goal in the 16th minute, sophomore forward Blake Chidester scored two goals in the 22nd and 31st minutes. In the second half, the offensive attack slowed up for the Pioneers. While taking 15 shots in the first half, Transylvania only took four in the second. The limited shots did not, however, stop the team from scoring, as Mudd netted a second goal for the match in the 67th minute.
While the match stats indicate a much closer match, Anderson took 11 shots in the match to Transy's 19, the Pioneers were able to convert on their scoring opportunities much more successfully, solidifying a dominant and overpowering win.
The convincing win comes in a pivotal conference match for Transylvania. With the victory, the Pioneers clinched the top overall seed in the upcoming HCAC tournament, giving them home field advantage for the entirety of the tournament.
The Pioneers will open the tournament on November 5 at 7:00 PM in a match against the same Anderson team they disposed of Saturday. Tickets will be $8 for adults, $5 for senior citizens and children 12 and under. Any faculty, staff or student member from an HCAC school will be admitted for free.
