Box Score LEXINGTON, Ky. --- Under the bright sunshine on a perfect fall day, the Pioneers (5-2-4, 2-0 HCAC) battled with Rose-Hulman (7-2-2, 2-0 HCAC) in game two here at Pat Deacon Stadium. Transylvania University looked to extend their four game winning streak and stay undefeated in HCAC play. The Engineers looked to derail the Pioneers and leave Lexington atop the conference standings.
Transylvania University had several scoring opportunities in the first half, but failed to find the back of the Engineers net. Junior Freddie Siegelman's spinning shot that just went wide right of the net was the closest the Pioneers had in a defensive battle that left both teams scoreless after the first half. While play was close, neither team had a distinct advantage. Pioneer goalkeeper Cody Waltrip stopped both Rose-Hulman shots in the half, facing a total of six.
The second half proved to be another defensive stalemate as both teams trying to get their offense started. Defensive gem of the game happened late in the second half as Waltrip came out to challenge a shot on goal and was pulled out of position. The Engineers took a point-blank shot only to have it cleared by Jacob Hill, preventing a goal. Despite a flurry of shot by both teams in the final four minutes, we remained tied at the end of regulation; 0-0.
The first overtime brought a barrage of Engineer shots, but the Pioneers defense held steady to send the game into the second ten minute overtime period. The final ten minutes was a series of traded exchanges inside each team's offensive zone, none yielding any goal which gave us the 2 OT final of 0-0.
Transylvania (5-2-5, 2-0-1 HCAC) travels to Earlham College to take on the Tuesday, October 14 to take on the Bears in conference action. Match time is set for 3:30 p.m.
