Box Score FRANKLIN, Ind. --- Transylvania University used a three goal second-half to blank Franklin College for a 4-0 win. The Pioneers got two goals in 1:31 in the second half to put the clamps on the HCAC foe and added the third in the 68th minute for the final four goal margin.
It was all Transys offense as the Pioneers took a total of 18 shots in the contest, eight in the first and 10 in second. The first half barrage did manage to net one goal coming at 24:03 on an unassisted goal by Riley Calhoon. In the second half, it was the Pioneers with a pair of goals in 1:31. Matt Melzer found the back of the net on an unassisted goal at 54:13 for his first goal of the 2015 season. Joining Melzer in the scoring column, Tyler Joy-Brandon nets his third goal of the season at 55:44 on the assist from Blake Chidester to push the Transy lead to 3-0. The 68th minute would show the Pioneers getting a header goal from Josh Morgan, assist from Matt Melzer for what would be the final score of 4-0. Morgan joins Melzer in getting their first goal of the season.
Goalie Cody Waltrip anchored a strong defensive effort by the Pioneers in saving all three shot attempts on goal.
Transylvania (5-2-4, 2-0-0 HCAC) returns to Pat Deacon Stadium to take conference rival Rose-Hulman. Match time is set for 3:30pm.
