Late surge by Bridgewater (Va.) trips up the Pioneers in Dan Green Memorial Tournament.

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. --- Playing its second game in 17 hours, the Pioneers took to the court against Bridgewater (Va.) in the consolation game of the Dan Green Memorial tournament in Maryland.  The Pioneers dropped the first game to John Carroll in late Saturday night action to set up today action against the Eagles.

Transylvania would take an early lead in the game relying on hot outside shooting by both Simon Christon and Bo Schuh each hitting threes early to help the Pioneers to an early 11-6 lead.  Schuh would have the hot hand during the first half scoring 9 points and grabbing four rebounds.  The Pioneers would take advantage of the Eagles 19 first half turnover to lead at the break, 23-15 shooting 25 percent on thirty three shot attempts. 

The Pioneers would push their lead in the second half to as many as 11 points, before the Eagles started slowly climbing back into the contest over the final 12 minutes of the game.  Bridgewater would chip away using a combination of timely three points shots, Pioneers turnover and costly personal fouls to take the lead with 1:28 left in game.  The Eagles would close on a 5-0 run, all on made free throws to close out the contest 55-50.   Fouls in the second half would be a telling statistic as the Pioneers would double the amount committed by the Eagles, 20-10.  

Freshman Bo Schuh led all Pioneers scorers with 16 points, adding six rebounds.  Transylvania would shoot 30 percent from the field to include a matching 30 percent from behind the arc.  Robert Dence would add an addition seven points and five rebounds. 

The Pioneers (0-2) will take on Spalding University (1-0) in the home opener at the Clive M. Beck on Wednesday, November 18th.  The All-Campus Food Drive will culminate before the game with all donations going to support local programs for the holidays.  Tip-off is set for 7:30p.m.
