Box Score Lexington, Ky. –It was a Senior Day to remember as the Transylvania men's soccer team made use of an early goal by freshman defender Jason Murillo to cruise to a 3-0 win over the Anderson Ravens at Pat Deacon Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The goal from Murillo came in the fifth minute of the game, as he scored the go-ahead goal off a beautiful pass from freshman forward Charlie Wend.
Although the Pioneers would not score again in the first half, they would still totally dominate control of the game, outshooting the Ravens 12 to 1 in the opening half.
Coming out of the intermission, Transylvania wasted little time in extending its lead over Anderson. Just three minutes into the second half, a Caswell Fuller pass found the foot of teammate Charlie Wend, who then scored the Pioneers' second goal of the day.
The Senior Day festivities were capped off by none other than senior forward Blake Chidester, who scored the Pioneers' final goal of the day in the 55th minute.
The Pioneers defense held the Ravens attack at bay over the final 30 minutes, and the game ended with a score of 3-0 in favor of the home team.
The Pioneers got another lights-out performance from freshman goalkeeper Drew Grisham, who recorded his fourth victory in a row without allowing a goal, while collecting three saves in the game. Grisham now leads the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference with a save percentage of .938 and a goals-against average of 0.29 allowed per match. Grisham has only given up two goals on the season.
The Senior Day victory now moves Transylvania's record to 10-2-3 and 5-1-1 in the HCAC, good for second place in the overall conference standings with two games remaining in the regular season.
The win also sealed up a sterling home record for the Pioneers, who complete their regular season with a unbeaten record of 7-0-2 at Pat Deacon Stadium.
Up next, the Pioneers will travel to Richmond, Indiana to take on the Earlham College Quakers, as they look to build upon the current five game winning streak. The game is set for a 3:30 PM start Matlack Field on Wednesday, October 26.
