No. 18 Transylvania men's soccer stays undefeated with road win at Mt. St. Joseph

Box Score

Cincinnati, Ohio. – The 18th-ranked Transylvania Men's Soccer team used a pair of first-half goals to roll to a 2-1 victory over the Mount St. Joseph University Lions at Schueler Field on Wednesday night.

The victory moves the Pioneers' record to 9-0 overall and 2-0 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

The Pioneers jumped out to an early lead when senior midfielder Riley Calhoon recorded his ninth goal of the season as he blasted a free kick past the Lions' goalkeeper 26 minutes into the game.

Less than 10 minutes later, the Pioneers added to their lead when a beautiful sequence of passing ended with a pass from senior midfielder Andrew Carter that found the waiting foot of sophomore forward Alex Shkraba, who fired a shot into the back of the net from just inside the box.

Just minutes into the second half, the Lions responded when they converted a penalty kick opportunity, cutting the Pioneers' lead to 2-1.

However, the sturdy Transylvania defense responded by allowing only two Mount St. Joseph shots on goal throughout the rest of the game, securing the Pioneers 2-1 victory.

Next, the Pioneers will travel to Defiance, Ohio to face the Defiance College Yellow Jackets on Saturday, October 7. First touch between the Pioneers and Yellow Jackets is set for 1:00 p.m. at Winsper-Knobel Memorial Field.
