Lexington, Ky. – The Transylvania women's soccer team earned a 1-0 victory over the visiting Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Fightin' Engineers at Pat Deacon Stadium on Saturday afternoon, thanks to an exhilarating goal from junior forward Parrish Chew.

With the win, Transylvania's record moves to 1-0 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play, and 3-5-2 overall.

The first half proved to be a back-and-forth affair as each team had opportunities to move the ball into their respective attacking thirds.

Transylvania possessed its chance in the final minutes of the first half as several Pioneer shots went just high of the goal; however, the teams went into halftime still even at 0-0.

After twenty minutes of second-half action, Transylvania saw its opportunity when a long ball from sophomore defender Brett Edwards found the waiting foot of Chew, who made her move towards the Rose-Hulman goal, and then fired a shot over the shoulder of the charging goalkeeper to put the Pioneers in front 1-0.

The Fightin' Engineers responded to the Transylvania goal with added offensive pressure of their own, but the Pioneers' defense held strong, preserving the 1-0 victory for the home team.

Junior goalkeeper Haley Blackburn earned the win for Transylvania after entering the game at the start of the second half. Blackburn recorded seven saves in 45 minutes of work for the Pioneers, and now boasts a record of 1-2-2.

With the first conference victory of the season under their belts, the Pioneers will return to the pitch on Thursday, October 5, to face the Mount St. Joseph University Lions. The match is set for a 7:00 p.m. start at Pat Deacon Stadium.
