12/29/2020 3:47:00 PM

Louisville, Ky. – The Transylvania men's basketball team will continue its season-opening trek against Division I-only basketball programs on Friday, January 1, 2021 with a showdown against the Bellarmine University Knights at 7 p.m. at Freedom Hall.

Having already played Morehead State University twice, Eastern Kentucky, and Murray State prior to the Christmas holiday, the Pioneers will visit Bellarmine on Friday in their latest contest against an in-state Division I team.

The game will take place at historic Freedom Hall in Louisville, where the Knights are making their inaugural season as a Division I athletics program as their new home venue for men's and women's basketball in the 2020-21 season.

Bellarmine (1-3) last played on December 23 at Notre Dame, falling 81-70 to the Fighting Irish while the Pioneers (0-4) fell to Murray State, 90-49 in their most recent contest on December 16.

The Pioneers are led by junior forward Zach Larimore, who paces the team in scoring at 15.3 points per contest, and senior guard Michael Jefferson, who leads the team in assists at 3.8 dimes per game and rebounds at 4.5 boards per contest.

Transylvania will be the first of two Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference teams Bellarmine is slated to face in a 24-hour period as the Knights will square off with Mount St. Joseph University on January 2 at 5 p.m. inside Freedom Hall.

Tickets are available for Friday's game at Bellarmine's ticketing website; the game can be watched live via ESPN+ and will be broadcast on radio and live stream via 93.9 FM "The Ville."
