Lexington, Ky. – The Transylvania men's soccer team were undone by two first-half goals in a 3-1 setback against the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Fightin' Engineers on Saturday afternoon at Pat Deacon Stadium.
The loss drops the Pioneers to 3-7-2 overall and 1-4-1 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play while the win moves Rose-Hulman to 9-4-1 overall and 6-0 in HCAC contests.
Rose-Hulman produced the pressure from the opening whistle as it looked to strike on the counterattack. The Fightin' Engineers found the opening goal as a cross deflected off of Luke Harrington and unfortunately found the back of the net for an own goal in the 21st minute.
The Fightin' Engineers doubled their advantage in the 33rd minute as they took a 2-0 lead into the halftime break.
After a third goal for the visitors in the 69th minute, Transylvania fought back with some grit and surefire defense. The Pioneers scored in the 80th minute as Drew Harrod muscled his defender off of the ball and flew down the right wing. Harrod played a perfect ball to Spencer Waldrop, who struck a first-timed effort past the goalkeeper to bring one back for a final 3-1 score.
The Pioneers are back in action on Wednesday, October 20 against the Earlham College Quakers for their final conference fixture at home. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. at Pat Deacon Stadium.
