Hanover, Ind. – The Transylvania men's soccer team was undone by a pair of first-half goals in a 4-0 loss against the Hanover College Panthers on Wednesday afternoon.
The loss drops the Pioneers to 2-5-2 overall and 0-2-1 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play while the win moves the Panthers to 7-3-1 overall and 3-0-0 in HCAC contests.
The Panthers applied the pressure on the Pioneer defense from the opening whistle. The Pioneers' back line stood strong for the opening 35 minutes of gameplay, but Hanover broke through on the counterattack and scored in the 37th minute. Minutes later, Hanover doubled its advantage to go into the half with a 2-0 lead.
Hanover proceeded to score two more goals in the second half to boost the advantage to 4-0. Alec Coomes and Spencer Waldrop forced saves out of the Hanover goalkeeper in an attempt to thin the gap but Hanover held firm on both efforts to deny the Pioneers a goal.
Gino Arena collected a season-high five saves during his time on the pitch.
The Pioneers will travel back to Lexington on Saturday, October 9th, for their Senior Day match against the Bluffton University Beavers. Following a pregame senior tribute, the match is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. at Pat Deacon Stadium.
