Anderson, Ind. – The Transylvania men's soccer team kicked off the 2021 spring season with a dominant 4-0 victory over the Anderson University Ravens at Macholtz Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.
The Transylvania offensive attack was on full display as the Pioneers returned to the pitch for the first time in 15 months. Four different Pioneers scored, and Transylvania outshot the Ravens 29-7 in the victory.
Transylvania sharpened its fresh ledger to 1-0 on the season while the Ravens fell to 0-1 overall and in conference play.
After a quiet start to the action,
Eddy Andrade laced a beautiful scoring strike into the back of the net from 30 yards away, giving Transylvania a 1-0 in the 34
th minute.
In the second half, the Pioneers extended their lead to 3-0 with a goal in the 70
th minute, followed by
Drew Harrod's first career score of an assist from
Mitchell Crispin.
With just over two minutes remaining in the game,
Alec Coomes converted the Pioneers' final score of the game when he blasted a straightaway scoring strike off a nifty throw-in by
Max Nusbacher.
The Pioneer defense held Anderson in check throughout the day while
Gino Arena picked up his first career victory in goal for Transylvania. The sophomore tallied a career-high three saves for a memorable clean sheet.
The Pioneers will be back in action on Saturday, March 6, when they open the home portion of the schedule against the Manchester University Spartans. The matchup between the Pioneers and the Spartans is set for 3:30 p.m. at Pat Deacon Stadium.
