Ashland, Va. – The Transylvania field hockey team could not find an offensive breakthrough in a 6-0 loss to the Randolph-Macon College Yellow Jackets at Day Field on Saturday afternoon.
The loss moves the Pioneers to 0-4 on the year while the Yellow Jackets jump to 1-2 following the victory.
The Pioneers saw pressure immediately as the Yellow Jackets maintained footing in the offensive half.
Sidney Varney was called upon as the senior made a trio of saves in the opening eight minutes to deny the Yellow Jackets. Randolph-Macon opened the scoring with five minutes remaining in the period for a 1-0 advantage.
Emily Long came close to equalizing the match but her shot strayed wide of the goal.
The Yellow Jackets scored twice in the second period while
Mirabel Noltemeyer's chance was stopped by the Randolph-Macon goalkeeper with one minute remaining as the Pioneers trailed 3-0 at halftime.
The second half witnessed the collegiate debut of freshman goalkeeper
Libby Bringard for Transy. Bringard made her first save two minutes into the period. A shot by
Kayla Bushman was saved by the Jackets with a minute remaining in the third in the last offensive opportunity for the Pioneers. The Yellow Jackets found three more goals on the way to sealing the 6-0 final.

Update, Sept. 11, 2021, 7:13 p.m. - Tomorrow's previously scheduled match at Washington and Lee has been cancelled. The Pioneers' next scheduled match is Wednesday, September 15 at Centre College in Danville, Kentucky at 7:00 p.m.)
