Men's Basketball had their inaugural game of the 2022-2023 season traveling to Elmhurst University to face off against the 23rd ranked Bluejays. Our Pioneers fought hard for the first half while falling short in the second losing to Elmhurt's, 68-97. While the Pioneers were unhappy with the result of their first official game there were plenty of bright spots and a lot to learn moving on for the rest of the season.
Post game, Head Coach Brian Lane had this to say:
"It was certainly a tough place to play for a season opener. They had a great crowd as they celebrated last years NCAA Championship Runner-Up team. Elmhurst shot the ball great from three in the second half and capitalized on our turnovers and lack of offensive execution. We now will have to regroup quickly as we play our second D3hoops.com Top 25 team on Saturday."
The Pioneers are no strangers to high level play returning a great core group, hoping to add more veteran players post injury but last night was about the newcomers. Freshman Daniel Mullins had a career high 13 points coming off the bench which is a great sign for our young season. Mitigating fouls and turnovers are key to our success and execution is a high priority for our Pioneers to bounce back.
The Pioneers continue their road venture to face Wheaton College (24th) Nov 12th where they look to face off against another nationally ranked team. For more on Transylvania men's basketball, follow @TransyHoops on Twitter.
