Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Fall Short to RHIT, still without Green

Our Pioneers traveled to Terre Haute Indiana taking on Rose-Hulman in their first matchup of the season in more regular season conference play. The first half was very competitive with the lead transferring between both teams. Transy continued a season-long trend of getting touches in the paint leading the amount of scoring inside in the first half. With about 5 minutes left to go in the first, Rose-Hulman went on a scoring run to take a slight lead and then we went into the half battling to keep it competitive. 29-34 in the First half (Rose).

Simon Smith continues to play hard and provide pivotal scoring giving opportunities to others like freshman rising playmaker Dakota Capps who provided a lot of production even if it doesn't show in the stat book playing the most minutes that game.

The Second half was a slow paced gritty game where a lot of fouls combined with Rose-Hulman continued 3 PT shooting created a large lead halfway through the second. After making multiple substitutions our Pios were able to find some rhythm and get some good baskets to build on but the deficit was just too much to overcome. This continues a 3 game losing streak to the Engineers but provides more than enough motivation to move on for more conference play against Bluffton December 10th at Home.

Head Coach Brian Lane had this to say after the defeat

"The most disappointing thing about this game was how we were destroyed on the offensive boards. In the second half we had several stretches where we got three and four stops in a row but could not score on the other end."

Then adding by saying; "It will be good to get back home to the Beck Center after playing five of our first six games on the road. We need to regroup during Finals week and prepare for a solid Don Lane Classic weekend on Saturday and Sunday."
